Squishy: What is it?
Squishies are soft foam toys that come in different shapes and sizes. You can squeeze the squishy in your hand and it will slowly expand itself again.
Squishies are used as toys and are also said to function as a stress-reducing ball.
You can buy squishies in shapes of cakes, fruits, teddy bears, etc.
Test: Squishies released harmful chemicals
A test from The Danish Environmental Protection Agency in the summer of 2018 revealed, that all 12 tested squishies released harmful chemicals in larger amounts.
The squishies in the test released for example the substance dimethylformamid (DMF) in high concentrations. The substance increases risk of:
- Liver damage
- Transient irritation of the eyes and respiratory system in children
- Damage to the unborn child

Danish EPA: Throw your squishies out – and do not buy new ones
Due to the test results The Danish EPA warns against squishies. The authority recommends that you throw out all squishies and do not buy new ones.
